The bearded prince
Once upon a time in the kingdom of Barbery the people celebrated the birth of a new baby prince. Everyone was happy because he was a beautiful baby indeed. The king and Queen were very happy. But suddenly they were shocked. Their new son has a long brown ugly beard.
The desperate King called for the court's barber. But the more the poor barber cut and clipped the baby's beard the more it grew and grew. Until the barber could cut no more and fell over very tired.
The poor infant. Who could shave off that ugly horrible beard? Barbers arrived from all over the world and tried to cut off the baby's beard. But all in vain. Never in history had a King and Queen suffered so much over the length of their son's beard.
So one day the king decided to read a proclamation: "To all of the people in the kingdom of Barbery. From this day forward, no one is permitted to shave. Any man without a beard will lose his head."
"It’s not a bad idea", said the people.
So they put beards on the statues and painted beards on the pictures.
But the poor infant prince continued to look strange and grotesque with that long, ugly horrible beard. And it made his mother, the Queen, very sad.
Time went by and the prince became a fine young man. One day a princess and her father were hitched a ride. A peasant stopped and took them to the palace.
The princess was introduced to the prince. The prince immediately fell in love. But the princess laughed and said, " what an ugly, horrible beard".
Everyone was shocked. The prince was very sad and told the princess to go away.
The two kings talked long into the night.
"Isn't there anyone who can cut off your son's beard?"
"I wish I knew", said the bearded King. "Maybe, no, …..Maybe if, no…."
"I've got it! There's a barber in afar off land who they say can cut off any beard, no matter how long. That's it"
It was the most famous barber in all the world, the barber of Seville.
When the princess saw the prince's clean face, they fell in love and were married. And the people of Barbery celebrated once again.
The prince and the princess became King and Queen and lived happy ever after.
الأمير ذو اللحية
في يوم من الأيام ولدت ملكة"الباربري"أميرا جميلا...فرح به الشعب واحتفل بولادته ... كانت السعادة تغمر الملك والملكة، حتى فوجئا ذات يوم بأن ظهرت لابنهما لحية طويلة بنية اللون وبشعة.نادى الملك على حلاق القصر، وأمر بحلق لحية الأمير . ولكن ... كلما قص الحلاق اللحية كلما ازدادت طولا،حتى سقط الحلاق من الإعياء.
ياله من طفل مسكين ... من يحلق له تلك اللحية القبيحة؟ وصل حلاقون من كل مكان، وحاولوا ذلك دون جدوى...
لم يحدث قط بأن تكدر ملك وملكة بسبب لحية ابنهما.
وفي ذات يوم، أصدر الملك مرسوما يقول:إلى جميع شعب الباربري ،اعتبارا من اليوم لن يسمح لأحد بحلاقة ذقنه، وكل من يفعل ستقطع رأسه .
قال الناس:ليست فكرة سيئة...
وهكذا، وضعوا لحى للتماثيل ورسموا لحى للصور ... ولكن الأمير مازال على هيئته ، وما زالت أمه على حزنها.
ومرت الأيام... وأصبح الأمير شابا يافعا ، وحدث أن تعطلت عربة كانت تقل أميرة وولدها الملك عبر بلاد" الباربري" ... نظرت الأميرة فرأت القصر، فاستوقفت فلاحا وطلبت منه نقلها إليه.
وهناك عرفوا الأميرة على الأمير، فأعجب بها ، ولكن الأميرة سخرت منه قائله:"يالها من لحية قبيحة...!".
صدم الناس من كلامها، وتألم الأمير، وطلب منها مغادرة القصر.
وفي الليل تباحث الملكان طويلا.قال أبوها: "ألا يوجد من يحلق لحيه ابنك؟"
قال أبو الأمير: "يا ليتني أعرف من يفعل ذلك... قد يكون...، لا... ربما لو، لا...
وجدتها هناك في أقصى الأرض حلاق يذكرون أنه يستطيع حلق اللحية مهما كانت طولها... ذاك هو... إنه أشهر حلاق في العالم، حلاق إشبيلية.
وعندما رأت الأميرة وجه الأمير بعد الحلاقة ، أعجبت به، ثم تزوجا.
وأصبحا ملكا وملكة وعاشا سعيدين سنين عديدة.
